ALCHEMY: The Transmutation of Metals is a richly illustrated collector’s edition exploring one of alchemy’s greatest pursuits: the transformation of imperfect metals into gold. Centred around Paracelsus’ Of the Transmutation of Metals, the book brings historical works into modern English and places them alongside authentic manuscripts, handwritten recipes, laboratory drawings, apparatus, symbols and illustrations from the alchemical tradition.

The book unfolds in three parts: The Gold Maker, The Transmutation of Metals, and The Philosopher’s Stone, moving from the question of whether transmutation was possible, through Paracelsus’ understanding of the Art, and finally into surviving manuscripts that described the Great Work and claimed to reveal the preparation and use of the Philosopher’s Stone.

Designed to feel like a treasured volume discovered in an old library, the edition is bound in deep red leather with restrained gold tooling, gilded page edges and the Rosa Aurea — the Golden Rose at its centre. The red recalls the perfected Red Stone and the final rubedo of the Great Work; the gold, the transformation it promised.
