Aries is a constellation that has been known since ancient times, but it was not officially recognized by the International Astronomical Union until 1922. Its boundaries were not defined until 1930 when they were outlined by astronomer Eugène Delporte. Aries is located in the northern celestial hemisphere, and it is one of the 12 constellations of the zodiac.
In Greek mythology, Aries represents the ram whose fleece was sought by Jason and the Argonauts. The story goes that when King Athamus of Boetia took a second wife, Ino, she was resentful of his existing children, especially his son, Phrixus, and she wanted him sacrificed. However, Phrixus' mother, Nephele, pleaded with Zeus to save her son. Zeus responded by sending a golden ram to rescue Phrixus and his sister Helle.
Unfortunately, Helle did not survive the journey on the ram's back and fell into the sea, which is now known as the Hellespont. Phrixus, on the other hand, made it safely to the land of Colchis with the golden ram. There, he sacrificed the ram to Zeus and gave its golden fleece to King Aettes. The fleece was eventually stolen by Jason and the Argonauts, which led to the famous tale of the Argonauts' quest for the Golden Fleece.
