The virgo myth should not be interpreted as a woman who is a virgin, but rather a nurturing woman who is a mother to all of the earth. The word "virgo" is Latin, means "self-contained" which is for us is better interpreted as "self-sufficient". Virgo’s nurturing comes from a place of not needing others to find fulfillment for them, but being able to create for others because they can already create for themselves

Most of the constellation's stars are dim, but Virgo's bright blue-white star, Spica, is fairly easy to locate. Spica, also known as Alpha Virginis, is the brightest star in the constellation. Spica ranks as the 16th brightest star in the night sky and can be regarded as a nearly perfect example of a star of the first magnitude. The second brightest star is Gamma Virginis, also known as Porrima and Arich, is a binary star

Virgo is the Goddess of Innocence and Purity. According to the creation Zeus sent Pandora down to Earth as a punishment to man. Because of her curiosity, she opened the box the gods had warned her not to, and let the plagues of hate, envy, sickness, etc. out into the world. Of course, Hope did not escape, but the Earth was just unbearable. One by one, the gods returned to the heavens to live. Astraea was the last to leave. She became the constellation Virgo, and according to legend, when the Golden Age comes again, Astraeawill return to the Earth. Linked to Virgo are the myths of Isis, Ceres, Astraea, Demeter, Ishtar and Mary (Mother of Jesus)

In Babylonian Mythology the Virgo constellation was known as "The Furrow", representing the goddess Shala's ear of corn or ear of grain

The star Spica, retains this tradition as it is Latin for "ear of grain", one of the major products of the Mesopotamian furrow
