That was one big year. I can’t even fit my mind to all the wonderful things we’ve done. From personal success, to growing our family with a wonderful husky girl, and making new friends, to be being plus one year married, still staying in Kefalonia, and really loving it.
Designing the year in review info graphic, only made me appreciate more all the things that i have, the small moments and silly details. And even  more, anticipating for all the new ones to be written.
Thank you all for sticking with me for this year, and warm hug to all the new friends i’ve made through this blog. I couldn’t be more blessed to have you all in my life, inspire me, be there with me through good and bad, let me be me and stay creative. Hope that counting 3, 2, 1 tonight will find you with your loved ones being happy more than ever before. Thank you 2013, for all the wonderful memories. 2014, can’t wait to say hi to you 🙂

What a week! In just a couple of days we’re going to say goodbye to 2013 for good. I don’t know about you, but i’m SO excited! We’re preparing the New Year’s Eve Party and New Year’s dinner (with 2014 piñata, Photo Booth, sparklers and lots of glitter).
On a side note now, i’m guest posting on Jacquelyn’s blog today with this awesome chewy cooky recipe. You will hardly ever find recipes on my blog (who knows maybe more will come with 2014) but i decided to make the exception, since i’m crazy about those cookies.

Well can you believe that now? It has already been a year! 2013 already seems to be so far away and there are just 4 days left for it to be gone for good. Every year this time around, i get so excited about the new one that is going to come. To start planning… Read more »

2014
Well can you believe that now? It has already been a year! 2013 already seems to be so far away and there are just 4 days left for it to be gone for good. Every year this time around, i get so excited about the new one that is going to come. To start planning a brand new year, achieve new goals, write new memories, grow and become a better person and experience new adventures. My mind goes crazy thinking about what’s up for us in 2014.
All i definitely know is the things that i promise myself to do and stick to them. What about you? Have you thought about your 2014 resolutions?
Finishing my book is definitely within 2014. It’s something i’ve started for over 6 years now and although i usually “abandon” projects very easy, this one has stuck with me for a long long time. Writing a book needs a lot of study so reading more books is my resolutions as well.
After the surgery, breathing for me has been more difficult than ever. I pant after 5 minutes walking and my sternum hurts. Exercising and getting me back to shape and not only. I want to walk more by the lake (in a perfect world daily) and do yoga every morning. Only the idea of how healthy i would feel makes me start right away. But.. i’ll wait for 2014 🙂
Eat healthier. Man, sorry for mentioning it again, but after my stay in the hospital, i promised myself i would never go back for any reason. It’s just so bad. More vegetables, freshly squeezed juices and healthy cooking. And, maybe adding a few (lot) new recipes, to our daily life.
Becoming a super woman. Keeping up with the house, husband, pets, personal life, friends, and not feeling tired all the time. That is probably too much to ask from myself. But a girl can dream right? Either way, i’m happy with the normal, non super version of myself.
Finally, i would love to spend more time outdoors. Our island is just a paradise and even though we explored a big part of it this year, i want more from the new one. Find places that are not so popular, create some memories. Go to the island fairs, eat and dance a little bit, would hurt either.

I’m pretty sure that no introductions are needed, since Chanel has been a huge part of my life, and of course, of this blog. It only felt fair, to get you to know my best friend a little bit better, since she makes so many appearances around here.
And you know, how you always tell me how beautiful Kefalonia is, and how lucky i am to be living here? Well, Chanel is the one to tell you how life is here, since she moved to Kefalonia from North Carolina. On top of everything, she may have something to share with you, that could be you chance to make a difference if you’re into wildlife and visit our wonderful Kefalonia.

How did you make the decision to move from North Carolina to
Kefalonia?

Kefalonia has always been a part of my life. My Grandfather
was born and raised here and my Grandmother is also from Greece. I visited
Kefalonia a few times when I was growing up and I fell in love. I always
thought that this is the place I wanted to be, but sometimes it felt as though
it was all just a big dream that would never come true. Thankfully I’m from a
family that taught me to dream big and aim high, so I never stopped trying to move
here. Now that I’m here I can truly say it is a dream come true and I am so
happy for it.

Were the first months in Kefalonia difficult to fit in?

Wow, I can honestly say that once winter set in it was
terribly hard for me to adjust. In fact, I planned on moving back to the USA
several times and even applied for a few jobs. I wasn’t quite ready for the
rainy weather (I hate rain, unlike my counterpart Corina lol). We lived in my great
uncle’s house that had no hot water, one little radiator, terrible breezy
windows and a moldy leaky roof. On top of it all we didn’t know that many
people. Of course I had some family still on the Island so that was nice, but I
didn’t speak ANY Greek and it was very hard to find people our age on the
island. I think the last straw was the fact that the shopping is not what I’m
used to.
I never dreamed of living in a place with no marshmallows, cool whip,
canned pumpkins, low calorie foods, canned soups, oh the list just goes on. I
was even scared to get my hair cut! I waited a whole year to even make the
plunge. The things that kept me going were my amazing and supportive fiancé and
my pets – my dog and two cats I brought from America. You may wonder if the
transition was hard for my pets. Ha! My dog became a professional goat herder
after a few days of living on the island (only joking) and my cats finally got
to play in the olive fields after years of being cooped up in apartments.
Needless to say, they did not want to go back to America, they just wish they
could get their paws on some chicken Florentine fancy feast.

It has been 2 years since you moved to Kefalonia. How do you
feel?

Great! I am on top of the world. Seriously. My personal life
is great, I have made friends with the most amazing couple that have made our
life complete here. Nikos and I are going to get married in May and we both
couldn’t be happier. My job is as good as it gets. Finally being able to run
our own conservation project and really do things the way we think they should
be done is GREAT.
It took a lot of hard work to make these two balanced and
great, but we are finally there and we hope life only gets sweeter from here.
The next step is to balance my life in America with my life in Greece. I love
and miss my family and friends in the US, but for now and the indefinite future
skype dates and a yearly visit will have to suffice.

What is Wildlife Sense?

Wildlife Sense is
a wildlife research & conservation project that I started with my partner
Nikos. Most of our conservation efforts deal with the marine environment here
on the island, as our research is focused primarily on loggerhead sea turtles.

Our mission is to protect the rich biodiversity of Kefalonia
while educating as many volunteers and members of the public as possible. Some
ways we do this are to walk the beaches daily protecting nests and newly
emerged hatchlings headed to sea, while also educating visitors of the island
at the Argostoli harbor and researching the behavior of the sea turtles that
feed there every day.

Who can join your program?

Anyone that is 18 or older, able to ride a bicycle on hilly
terrain and can walk the beach/harbor on a hot day can join. You don’t have to
have previous experience, but you must have a desire to learn. We are a bit
different than other volunteer programs because we really want every volunteer
to come away with an understanding of how to conduct research and with some
general knowledge of sea turtle biology and conservation in general.

Last year was the first year of Wildlife Sense.
How was the
experience for more than 100 volunteers?

It was awesome, like one big family. At any time there can
be around 20 volunteers (100 over the whole summer). We camp together, eat
together, have shifts together, tour the island together etc. It didn’t run
like a first year project as Nikos has run and been a part of sea turtle
projects for over 10 years, I kept things organized and was over the moon to
give so many talks about sea turtles and really be in the field teaching about
how sea turtles nest or how hatchlings find the sea.

This island is beautiful, and there is something enchanting
about sea turtles which brings such liveliness to both ourselves and the
volunteers. We all feed off the positive energy and it is just an amazing
experience.

Merry Christmas everyone!!
Oh boy what a day! I was going to make a “Merry Christmas” for today’s post and write you a few wishes. But let’s be real. Our day was so much more awesome than just a graphic.
Today, was seriously the best Christmas i’ve ever had. It was a day with Chanel & Nikos, our family. Everything was cozy, Christmassy and just perfect. The food was beyond than divine. I’m normally not a fan of food, and i simply eat to live. But i surprised myself today!
Chanel and i even got a Christmassy, star themed photoshoot for you. Between you and me. It wasn’t easy! How do those pictures with girls blowing glitter look so perfect?? Hah we are just hilarious, i love them.
And on top of everything we had one very happy Emma. She loved eating (tons) of turkey and running happily in the fields.
The table settings, decorations was perfect. I’m SO proud of you Chanel, everything was simply beautiful and very thoughtful and organised.
Hope you’re somewhere warm and cozy, with friends and family having a wonderful time. May your Christmas be merry and bright! So much love to all of you my wonderful friends

Merry Christmas Eve everyone! Hope you’re all having a wonderful time whatever you are and whatever you do. It’s been super Christmassy today, seeing friends, pancakes for breakfast, and baking cookies. Mulled wine at the moment, and a fabulous dinner for the mister and i.
Although our New Year’s Eve is going to be a really cozy dinner at home with Chanel & Nikos, nothing too formal or flashy, i still wanted to think about a super fabulous outfit just in case. Somehow i’m really into New Year this year more than ever. And boy DO I love glitter. I’ve surprised even myself!
Shop these here: Sequin Dress, Vintage Hair Slide, Leather Clutch, Bead Bangle, Heeled Sandals
The perfect dress would be something i know i would feel it would be too much for any other night (although that depends on your lifestyle, right?). So, sequins all over i go! Something flattering, feminine, fun and comfortable. Black or midnight blue always feels formal and appropriate. Not to mention both. How about you? Have you picked up your outfit yet?

If you are more like me,  with so many things going on, you’ll be probably running around wrapping your gifts the very last minute. Probably even not haven’t shopped wrapping paper, ribbons and decorations? Yup, i feel ya.  There are so many wonderful colourful, funky wrapping ideas for Christmas on Pinterest.
But somehow even though i love them, i feel that they are more appropriate for birthdays, or any other day of the year. On Christmas, i like going gold, silver or natural.
You just can’t wrong with those, plus they are so very festive, and right suitable for Christmas and New Year. Even though i like making the wrapping special, with lots of things going on, tinsels, bells, glitter it’s just unbelievably difficult not to spend a good amount of money. That’s why i keep a good stock with ribbons, wrapping paper and all that pretty things.
But you know what makes the best gift wrapping? Creativity. Creating your own wrapping paper, using ornaments from your Christmas tree, candy and lots of love.
